ARSENAL V GRIMSBY TOWN FA CUP SEMI-FINAL 21 MAR 1936
Grimsby Town reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup twice during the 1930s, losing to Arsenal and the mighty Wolves. Grimsby Town famously reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup on two occasions during the 1930s.
By any club’s standards, it was a great achievement – and it really did mark a golden era for the Mariners. Arsenal edged past Town in March 1936, with Cliff Bastin scoring the winner at Huddersfield Town’s former Leeds Road base.
And just a few years later, the club helped create history at Old Trafford, but they agonisingly short of a Wembley showpiece once again. Coming up against the mighty Wolves, a crowd of 76,962 witnessed the action as Town slipped to a 5-0 defeat.
