On the 20th of September 1878, several members from the Worsley Cricket Club came together for a meeting at the Wellington Arms on Freeman Street to form Grimsby Pelham – what we now know as Grimsby Town Football Club.
Today, Grimsby Town Football Club turns 145 and the GTFC Heritage Project, #RememberWhenGTFC…, we are launching our official heritage website with the club’s official timeline.
In August 2022, GTSET were awarded Heritage Lottery Funding to preserve, protect, and display the archive of Grimsby Town Football Club. Since then, we have employed a Heritage Project Manager who started in November 2022 and catalogued over 1,600 items with the help of our volunteers.
But this is just the beginning for the #RememberWhenGTFC… project. The GTFC Heritage Collection continues to grow as we catalogue match-day programmes, historical photographs as well as club memorabilia in the form of shirts and trophies – Our collection has items that date back as far as the 1880s all the way up to the current season’s match day programmes.
This new website aims to connect our fans with our collection. It will allow you to view our items, share your stories and memories, make donations of items to the collection, and also see video content. The website will be ever-growing with new things keeping you updated with the latest items that have been added.
