Our Story Began in 1878

1878 Our Football Club was formed in 1878, above The Wellington Arms on Freeman Street. In 1899 we moved to our present home, Blundell Park.

Our Golden Era The 1930s was a golden era, with the Club playing the top division of English football for eight seasons before the Second World War. Buckley’s Promotions Alan Buckley masterminded back-to-back promotions in 1989-90 and 1990-91 to return to the second tier.

Wembley 98 Then in 1997-98 the Club enjoyed a double Wembley-winning campaign, lifting the Auto Windscreens Shield thanks to a golden goal by Wayne Burnet and the Division Two play-off final.

After a scintillating 2021-22 campaign and play-off success, the mariners are now back in the Football League and looking to climb back up the league structure.

In 2022-23 we became the first club in FA Cup history to knock out five teams from a higher division and reached the Quarter Finals for the first time since 1939.

Grimsby Town Football Club has been under the ownership of Jason Stockwood and Andrew Pettit since May 2021. Both are life-long Mariners fans who have experienced incredible success in their careers. Their aim is for the Club to be central to the local community and to make new memories along the way. In their first season as owners, the Mariners achieved promotion back to the Football League, at the first time of asking, winning three consecutive games in the play-offs against Notts County, Wrexham and Solihull Moors to pull-off an unlikely feat. In June 2022 the club partnered with local renewable energy company, myenergi, and now the Mariners proudly display their logo on the front of their shirts – the name a symbol of the town’s regeneration and hope for the future.
